NEW LOCATION!!!! Luncheon Venue: Pensacola Civic Center in Downtown Pensacola!

As ASTD grows, it has been necessary to find larger locations that can accommodate our membership. So many of us are attending the luncheons that we have successfully outgrown the space The New World Landing provided for us. We are anxious to find a long-term home for ASTD and believe the Pensacola Civic Center is just that place. With ample parking, meeting space and good food, we look forward to beginning our relationship with the Pensacola Civic Center as Pensacola ASTD's new home.

Please join us and discover what ASTD can do for you!

The Pensacola Civic Center is located at 201 East Gregory Street in Pensacola, FL.

January 30th Chapter Meeting

Leveraging the Power of Mobile Learning

Jason Haag, ADL Initiative

Topic Description:
For those new to mLearning, there are many decisions to make. There are new technologies and platforms to develop on and there may be stakeholder, management, and user resistance to using these new technologies. Or, instead of resistance, they may have unrealistic expectations of what mLearning can successfully deliver.

This presentation will give you a general overview of mobile learning definitions and examples. Learn how the ADL Mobile Learning Team was able to develop an app to support multiple devices and the choices made during development. In addition, you will briefly learn the process for optionally packaging your mobile content as an application for deployment to app stores.

About the speaker:
Jason Haag's interest and background is in learning systems, web technology, and standards. He spent eight years supporting the U.S. Navy's eLearning program in both engineering and management roles before joining the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative. He is currently employed by The Tolliver Group, Inc. and provides Systems Engineering and Technical Analysis (SETA) support for the ADL, sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Readiness).

Do Techies Make Good Leaders?

By Robert M Fulmer and Byron Hanson

It's hard to develop leaders in any industry. But people in the technology sector seem to believe it's especially hard in their business.

So is it?

We put that theory to the test and concluded that tech people have a point: The speed of the industry's growth, along with the type of workers it attracts—young and with backgrounds in engineering and science—does, indeed, lead to some unique challenges.
